Google plans to unveil the Pixel 8a, its newest smartphone, at the I/O developer conference on May 14 this year. As excitement intensifies with the event’s approach, leaks increasingly disclose the Pixel 8a’s details. Reportedly, the phone will feature four color options: black, ceramic, blue, and a novel green. But now there are rumours suggesting that this device could cost less than Rs 50k in India.

The Pixel 8a is likely to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor — the Pixel 7a — if we’re to believe the leaks and rumors thus far. The phone will reportedly feature a massive 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED display with super smoothness and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Expectations also suggest that the Pixel 8a will boast a very bright display, reaching up to 1,400 nits for HDR content, matching the high-end Pixel 8 model. This marks a significant enhancement over the previous year’s Pixel devices, which had screens that peaked at brightness levels around or less than half that amount, due to their typical peak brightness values.
Google called its latest system on chip “Tensor G3” for its forthcoming smartphones. This SoC will likely be as powerful as the Pro or regular Snapdragon processors in other Pixel phones, but some models may use MediaTek chips instead, which offer similar performance levels through better optimization during integration with design process technology and other efficiency-improving methods at chipmaking stages while also factoring regional market needs and available resources, according to WinFuture.
According to the German website WinFuture, the upcoming Google Pixel 8a will offer four color options: Obsidian (black), Porcelain (beige), Bay (light blue), and Mint (light green). However, not every color may be available for both versions of the phone. Currently, indications are that the 256GB model will come exclusively in black. Experts have yet to confirm the exact release date of the phone, but the consensus is that it should launch around April or May.

The Google Pixel 8a is rumored to be offered in two memory configurations and various color options when it arrives with a slightly higher starting price compared to its predecessor. German retailers have hinted that the base model might start at over €550 ($650), approximately INR ₹50,000 while last year’s entry-level variant costed €499 ($590), less than INR ₹45,000 at current exchange rates.
