Meta, Mark Zuckerberg owns, has started testing its generative AI chatbot called ‘Meta AI’ on Instagram. This chatbot can write poetry and generate images, among other things, using a single text prompt input. Meta recently began trialling its AI chatbot for specific users in India and other countries.

In response to Engadget’s inquiry, Meta confirmed the news, saying: “Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in various phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity.”

Initially spotted by TechCrunch, the publication reported that the AI chatbot was being tested in the main search bar, but others have said that it appeared in the Instagram DM search bar instead. According to Engadget’s report, clicking on the Meta AI icon allowed them to converse with it directly from their DMs as if chatting with a friend.

Some users claimed on social media that the Meta AI chatbot can also help navigate reels on a specific topic, meaning they may no longer have to rely solely on Instagram searches.
